Promotional Pens Work Wonders for Promoting Businesses

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Promotional pens are some of the best promotional tools for business promotion. Do you want to use them to effectively promote your brand? You are only limited to your own imagination.

Logo printed pens have been used for decades as selling tools for both existing and new customers. When you give away a good quality plastic or metal pen, people realise that you have gone to some investment to promote you company. They will keep them for as long as they write well and not toss them in the bin as they would less useful and unwanted advertisements.

Promotional pens act as a brilliant introduction to potential clients. But it should also be noted that pens have a way of changing owners. They get passed on, usually unintentionally from person to person reaching even more people than your original contact.

If you are managing a retail business, be sure to set a pen pot on the counter with your logo printed pens in it for customers to take and remember you by.

If you promote your business to the general public, think of all the places you have been and might have needed a pen. Leave some of your promotional pens in banks at the counter and near the register at super markets, shops and restaurants.

It could also be a good idea to establish good relationships with other businesses and organisations. Offer a number of promotional pens to your local hospital, pub, school and market. Anywhere people need pens, get your pens into their hands!

Most promotional plastic pens can accommodate at least three lines of text and a logo. Be sure to get your most important information onto the pens first such as your business name, telephone number and web address. These details will help entice people to visit your website or give you a call.

Trade shows, exhibitions and graduate fairs are all excellent places to give away your free promotional pens. Offering prospects a nice pen or two can help set your business apart from those who simply hand out their brochures and business cards.

Personalised logo Pens not only promote your corporate information but they are a useful product that people will want to keep, usually on their desktop where your information will be seen regularly.

Order good quality pens that write smoothly and look good will achieve the best results. Order samples today to find the best pens for your business.

Trade Show Facts – Cheap Promotional Pens Could Do You More Harm Than Good

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Promotional pens continue to be one of the most popular trade show giveaways. Customers always need pens and are happy to take them, which generates a great deal of publicity for you. They are low-cost promotional gifts that have the potential to advertise your business for years.

This means your competition is also handing out lots of pens.

The variety of styles and features mean that recipients can pick and choose to find their favourites. They come home with a bagful, and their favourite pens end up on their desks at work. If it’s your pen, people will look at your logo every day. Give away the wrong pen and those customers will be looking at your competition’s.

Cheap promotional pens can get your name into customers’ hands. But if a pen is hard to write with, it may get tossed before the customer even makes it back to the office. In fact, odds are that a pen will be used right away at a trade show. People network, swap information, jot down phone numbers and websites, and fill out countless customer cards and surveys.

At just a few pence each, cheap pens might seem like the ideal way to reach thousands of customers. Unfortunately, quality can vary widely, even among the low-cost pens. Don’t assume that pens are pens and people won’t notice the difference. This is especially true at a trade show, where people can simply go to the next stand and get another one.

There is no scarcity of promotional pens, especially at trade shows. People see stick style pens as low value items and won’t feel bad about disposing of them. They won’t hesitate to throw away a pen they don’t like, but they will probably wonder why you would choose a low-quality pen to represent your business.

The point is that lousy pens can hurt your business, regardless of what they cost.

This does not mean you need to order pens with all the bells and whistles. However, you really should make sure they write well and feel comfortable. No one wants a pen that leaves inkblots on the page or worse, doesn’t write at all.

Unfortunately there are too many cheap pens around that do just that. Cheap promotional pens that seem like a bargain actually hamper your marketing efforts if customers are throwing them away. Get some samples and try the pens first. Make sure they are something you would enjoy using before handing them out. Otherwise they could end up doing your business more harm than good.

7 Things To Remember When Preparing For A Trade Show

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

A successful trade show experience takes planning and proper execution. But even with a solid plan, people sometimes get caught up in the details and forget the major factors that are important to trade show success. Keep this basic outline in mind when preparing for your next trade show to maximize your results.

1. Start planning early. Printing brochures and customized products can take time, especially if there is a delay or a problem with your order. Custom graphics and displays also take time to create, and you don’t want the results to look rushed.

2. Decide on an objective. What do you hope to accomplish through your exhibit? Establish how many leads you would like to generate or how many customer contacts you would like to make. Determining this goal in advance keeps your staff focused. It also helps you plan how many supplies to order and how you will handle follow-up tasks.

3. Choose your location carefully. Be sure to reserve a booth in location that serves your needs best. If you want to capture the most walk-through traffic, you don’t want a spot that is away from the beaten path – you want the prime real estate in the center. If your business lends itself to longer, one-on-one conversations or demonstrations, you may want a spot in a quieter corner where your customers are not bothered by an endless stream of traffic.

4. Appearance counts – in more ways than one. Exhibits should be eye-catching and appealing. They also need to incorporate high-visibility elements so that visitors can easily find your booth. You don’t need to blow your advertising budget, but banners, graphics and racks should all look professional. You also need to set yourself apart from hundreds or thousands of other exhibits. Lay your items out in unique and innovative ways that don’t look cheap or gimmicky.

5. Dress appropriately. Decide what your staff should wear to best represent your company. You might prefer the formality of suits or the more relaxed look of logo-printed polo shirts. Customers may dress casually at trade shows, but they expect exhibitors to look polished and businesslike.

6. People expect takeaways and promotional items. Make sure yours are good quality so that they last and work well. To increase interest in your stand, provide quality items that serve a purpose or solve a problem. Not only will people be happy to take them home, they will be sure to use them for months or years.

7. Not every prospect will become a customer right away. You can set aside premium products for those who make a purchase at the show, but all visitors should be treated as though their time is important. Courtesy and a low-cost promotional item can go a long way to generate a relationship with a prospect.

They might not be qualified at the moment, but you don’t know what their situation will be by next year’s show. Make sure they have a positive experience with you. If your item is memorable, for instance, an extremely comfortable pen, they will be sure to remember where they got it.

Promotional Pens Cost Very Little Per Impression

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Some cheap promotional pens can actually do you more harm than good so pay close attention.

So many advertising methods are charged by the impression.

Think about it. If you pay for a television or radio commercial you will pay more when more people are expected to be listening.

If you start and internet pay for click campaign, you will literally pay per impression.

The bad news is that with most forms of advertising, once that impression is seen or heard, that’s it!

Not so with promotional pens. There are promotional pens to meet most budgets but don’t go for the cheapest if you are trying to build your brand!

If you purchase a 10p pen printed with your logo and details, a good part of that price will be in the print. In other words, you are purchasing a pretty low quality pen.

Now lets say you purchase 2500 of these cheap pens and give them away at your next trade show. If they do not write well, you will be lucky to get one impression from these pens and it most likely will not be a good one.

What if you were to purchase better quality pens at say 40p each? Depending on your budget, you may need to purchase fewer but stick with me here. Let’s say you purchase 1000 Prodir DS3 Pens for 40p each.

Prodir pens have a guaranteed writing life of 5000 meters. I’ve written with them on many occasions and can vouch for the fact that these plastic pens will write smoothly for months if not years!

There are many excellent quality pens on the market so take some time to find the best for your business.

What if your customers used their favourite Prodir pens printed with your logo and details every working day for three months – three times per day – on average of course. That is 180 good impressions at a cost per impression of less than a penny.

This is why promotional merchandise of all types is such a good investment. These products are non obtrusive like telesales, commercials and other annoying forms of advertising. On the contrary, they are most often useful products that your customers will enjoy owning and want to use.

Each time they use your promotional merchandise, they will be getting to know your brand better.

So you see, buying promotional pens that are a little better quality – even if you need to purchase fewer is a very good idea.

Promotional Pens * What are the Best Pens for Promoting Your Business?

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Looking for the perfect promotional pens to promote your business should take a few days if not weeks. Sure you could just look for a company that can supply good looking pens in a few days. Most good promotional gift suppliers can do this for you.

Allow yourself a little time to source the best, however, and your promotion will be much more spectacular.

I would like to tell you about two different types of customers I come across regularly: the rush buyers and sample requesters. You may be interested to learn that the rush buyers enquire much more often.

These rush buyers have usually waited until the last minute to order. They purchase their pens from a picture and rarely have time to see samples before ordering. More often than not, the end product still looks great but…

They could have so much better!

Personally I really like dealing with the customers who request samples of the promotional pens that interest them. There is no better way to ensure a pen is perfect for promoting your brand than to see it and write with it.

The sample requesters usually spend a lot more time talking on the phone and asking for advice and suggestions. I have been in the promotional pen industry for over 20 years so I encourage the conversation.

Often they ask what type of pens they can have within a certain budget. I am then able to recommend the pens that will serve them best.

The best pens will be down to what you are trying to accomplish but will always be of good quality.

Promotional plastic pens can often be manufactured to order. Senator Pens, Lecce Pens and Prodir Pens all manufacture excellent quality plastic pens that can be made to compliment your corporate branding.

You can choose the colour of the barrel and clip from a selection of stock colours. Some even have additional trim colour options that can really look great.

Promotional metal pens are great executive gifts. It is important to find a good supplier if you do not have time to see samples. The quality of metal pens can vary greatly but this is not always obvious from a catalogue picture.

Many companies use promotional plastic pens to attract new customers and keep their existing customers thinking of them. They then order more expensive executive pens for their top customers.

Allow yourself time to see and try the pens that will be representing your company and you can expect excellent returns.

Promotional Pens * Why You Must Consider the Print Area

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Promotional Contour Pens

We can now print much larger on the Contour Pen. This is a UK favourite!

Logo printed pens are available in thousands of different styles and price brackets. Given the large choice, it is often easy to choose a pen without realising its negative attributes. Just because a promotional printed pen looks fantastic and writes great does not necessarily mean it is the best pen for your business marketing.

Take Steve Lindley, for example. Steve approached a business gift supplier looking for a unique and good quality promotional plastic pen to use at an exhibition his business was planning on exhibiting at.

He found an amazing value plastic pen and returned to the office, pen in hand to show everyone in the marketing department.

Everyone loved the pen too. The dark green trim colour matched the perfectly and it appeared to be a lot of pen for the money!

Steve was asked to prepare the logo and design to be printed onto the pens. He also ordered 10000 of the promotional pens. They had five exhibitions planned that year and it would be good to purchase in bulk and save money.

Business being business, Steve became busy with other work and put the design off. He realised that he had plenty of time as the exhibition was not for few weeks. In the mean time, promotional pen suppliers ordered in the 10000 of the German made pens to ensure they were ready to be printed when the artwork arrived.

When Steve eventually got around to the design work, he set the logo and contact details. He also decided to add the company strapline and then emailed the design to the supplier.

Unfortunately, Steve was very disappointed with the response he received. Within a couple of hour of sending design to his pen supplier he received an email from the supplier’s design team.

The pen only had a 35mm x 5mm print area.

Although the company logo would fit nicely into the space, it would be impossible to print all of the other details legibly. There simply was not enough print space to do so.

Steve tried to blame his supplier but the print area of the pens were printed in the suppliers catalogue as well as online. He simply did not bother to read the information.

There was, however, another print area on the reverse side of the pen that could be used for the additional details. This meant additional expense but it was really the only way forward.

Had he known what he wanted to print before he chose and ordered the pens, his supplier could have recommended a better pen for the job. Pens often do not have large print areas but some have a lot more space than others

Such problems can happen often when people do not consider what they need printed and choose a pen accordingly.

It is essential that when you are using promotional pens in your marketing, that you consider not only the style and quality of the pen but whether it offers enough print area to carry your message.

Choosing Promotional Pens for Business

Friday, October 29th, 2010
Promotional Senator Pens

The very popular Senator Akzento Pen

With the economy and business world in the state it is today, it is often hard to market your company and get your name out there. Companies have tried everything from business brunches to banner ads, but results are often short lived and difficult to track.

Have you ever thought about using promotional pens?
Sure, it’s just a small writing utensil, but something as simple as a promotional pen can open up the world of business like no other. Think about it… promotional pens and gift pens have helped to promote both big and small brands from Coco Cola and Google to local restaurants and gyms.

Just think about the possibilities.  At your next job fair or exhibition, offer good quality promotional pens with your company’s name and contact details on them and you’ll leave a lasting impression with everyone who takes one.

Good quality plastic and metal pens are an ideal way to promote your company. Just having a potential target customer carrying around your pen is a plus for any company because no matter where they go, as long as they have that pen with them, it stands as an instant reminder of who your company is and how they can contact you.

Not only are these smooth writing pens good for promoting businesses, they are also a great way to promote charities charities, schools and churches.
It is usually a good idea to use better quality pens and not those cheap promo pens you find in banks and betting shops. Low quality pens that do not have long writing lives can give the wrong impression about you and your brand.

I recommend looking at the plastic pens manufactured by Senator, Lecce, Prodir and Roubil.  These pens look and write fantastic and will give a good impression. If metal gift pens are of interest, check out the pens manufactured by Cross, Parker, Lamy and Waterman.  Lamy is one of my personal favourites.

Your first step should be to ask for samples.  Write with the pens you think will represent your brand in a good way.  Ask your work colleagues to do the same.

Generally speaking, if you like writing with a pen, chances are your customers will too. The sample stage is therefore very important but it is a stage that many people leave out. If you want to get the best results with your promotional pens, you need to take the time to know what it is your are buying!

The Balmain Etoile Pen is Put to my 3000 Word Challenge

Monday, October 18th, 2010
Promotional Balmain Etoile Pens

Great value promotional Balmain Etoile gift pens

What type of promotional metal gift pen do you think you can purchase for around £2.00? Most brand name pens such as Parker and Lamy have low cost gift pens on offer but they start at about a pound more. They are also not metal.

If you want to give your clients or top employees something nicer than the standard plastic ballpen but you don’t have a huge budget – try the Balmain Etoile metal gift pen.

Over the weekend I put this good quality low cost promotional gift pen to my 3000 word challenge. Any pen should be able to write at least 3000 words. That is not what the test is about. I have been testing pens regularly for writing comfort, writing quality and the overall impression that the pen makes on me.

I am doing this in the hope that I can better advise you on which promotional writing instruments will be better for your business branding.

First Impressions

The Balmain Etoile pen is quite light. It is manufactured in brass with a bright chrome finish and blue trim. It features the famous Balmain brand clip that looks fantastic. The blue trim is printed with the Balmain logo.

Writing Quality

Every Balmain pen I have tested, and I have test quite a few, seem to have a good smooth writing quality. The black ink line seems to glide across the paper, much more so than most cheaper plastic pen.

One thing that is worth noting is that all Balmain pens can take Parker refills. This is a selling point and an important bit of information you can pass on to your customers and employees.

When the ink finally does go dry, they need only go down to their local stationery store and purchase a Parker refill. This means your customers and employees can be using the Balmain Etoile pen for many years.

Packaging

I always recommend giving nice gift pens in some sort of presentation case. Often this has to be purchased extra but not with Balmain products! All Balmain gift pens are supplied with a good quality presentation case as standard.

Final Thoughts

I would highly recommend requesting a free sample of the Balmain Etoile pen. Write with it for a while and pass it around to work colleagues. Ask them for their thoughts.

If you are in a rush, however, I am quite confident that you will like writing with this gift pen. At only £2.00 per pen, it is a real bargain that could promote your business for many years to come!

Promotional Gift Pens-A Look at the Da Vinci MBB01 Executive Ball Pen

Thursday, September 9th, 2010
The MBB01 Gift Pens

Promotional Gift Pens at a promotionalpens.co.uk Low Price!

I am truly enjoying writing with and getting to know the pens better that I have been selling for years. Every day I am writing 2000 plus words with a different popular promotional gift pen to test it for quality. Today I am writing with the Da Vinci MBB01 Executive Ball Pen.

Despite its rather boring name, this attractive ball pen is far from boring! In fact, I am really beginning to like writing with pens in the Da Vinci range.

It was my wife’s idea to begin writing my daily blog posts and articles in freehand first to really get to know the pens I have sold and promoted for so many years. Thanks, Caroline! Her idea has been an eye-opening experience for me: an experience that I have really enjoyed.

Despite a rather tired writing hand, I have rediscovered what makes many of the gift pens that people love, such outstanding customer and employee gifts. The Da Vinci MBB01 is no exception.
The MBB01 Ball Pen is a real touch of class at a rather low price. It is an executive gift pen that looks, writes and feels like much more expensive pens. The low price tag is down to the Da Vinci name not being as well known as other name brand pens that have been around much longer. After writing over 2000 words with this pen I can assure you it is not down to the quality of the pen!

The black glossy pen with chrome trim highlights performs as you would expect a good quality gift pen to perform. It is a twist action pen which I personally prefer. No click, click, clicking in the board room and no caps to take care of. It is easy to hold in the hand and at around £5.00 each (approx. $8.00 USD) it is a steal by most anyone’s standards. That price even includes a luxurious padded gift box.

MBB01 in gift box

The MBB01 gift pen is supplied in an attractive gift box!

Pens presented in nice gift boxes create great impressions.

These promotional gift pens are printed, not engraved. There is a print area in line with the clip of 20mm x 20mm which is sufficient space for most logos and even a little text.

All in all, I have really enjoyed writing with the Da Vinci MBB01 Gift Pen. I hate the name but love the pen. It is fitted with a large capacity black

ink refill for a long writing life. Such nice quality metal pens will keep you message and logo in front of your top customers and employees for years.

Warning-Promotional Pens That Look The Same Are Not Always The Same!

Monday, August 30th, 2010
The popular Techno Ballpen

The pictured Techno ball pen goes by many names but the quality is rarely as good as the real thing!

I would like to tell you a story about a customer I lost for a short time. This was a customer who had been very happy with our service and prices. There was really no reason for them to change suppliers had it not been for a mail shot they received from one of my cut price competitors.

Her boss received a brochure while she was on vacation. The brochure featured a picture or the Techno ballpen. This is a very popular metal pen worldwide. I have seen it called other things such as the Lunar Pen and the Argenta Pen but the distinctive style is the same.

Realising they were low on pens and had a upcoming trade show in a few weeks, he jumped at the special offer without asking for samples. He thought he had been paying far too much for his pens and was in no mood to pick up the phone to me. He sent his artwork and placed his order.

Such actions are not unreasonable. If you saw an iPad featured for sale by one supplier for 20% less than from another supplier and you wanted an iPad, would you not jump at the deal?

Unfortunately for my customers things didn’t go as planned. They received their new pens a day before their big event but they were not the same. The metal used to manufacture them was much lighter and they were difficult to write with because of a substandard refill. Basically they were not usable because there were such poor quality.

I learned when I first started in the promotional merchandise industry that many pens may look the same but they are by no means the same. You see, the popular designs can be manufactured by several competing factories in China. Some use cheaper materials to manufacture these lookalike pens and the resulting pens feel cheap and not nice to write with.

I love competition. It is part of what makes my job fun. But as a buyer of promotional pens you need to ensure you are comparing like for like.

If in doubt ask for samples. Any good supplier will be happy to arrange for you to see samples.

I am happy to say that my customer has come back. This type of thing will happen again but hopefully it will not happen to you. Always check the quality of your promotional merchandise and you will have far less chance of purchasing substandard merchandise.

Have you ever thought you were getting an amazing deal on promotional pens just to find that the goods were not what you were expecting? Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences by leaving a comment.
