Promotional Pens London- Is It The Local Or The Service You Desire

Dan Toombs

Over the past 20 years working in the promotional gifts industry, I have seen many changes. One is the decline in the importance  of selling or purchasing promotional merchandise locally. In fact, this could cost you a lot of money unnecessarily!

Therefore, when searching for promotional pens London, you should probably read this blogpost first!

I often receive enquiries from marketing professionals who typed promotional pens London into their favourite search engine and found us at promotionalpens.co.uk! This will be greatly down to our name but hey… we’re in the North East of England. What’s going on?

If the truth be known, even if our offices are in the North East, our pens are stored in locations all around the UK including London. This applies to most of the promotional gift suppliers in the UK.

Those promotional pens are then printed at different locations depending on lead-time and the type of pens we are printing.

At the end of the day, where you are and where your promotional pens supplier is means very little nowadays.

Why the locality of your supplier used to be important

Back in the old days – before the Internet, many promotional pen suppliers would pride themselves on their vast showrooms and the fact that they could come visit – push you – into making a purchase.

This was an expensive way of doing business but at the time it was necessary. Some promotional pen suppliers still work in this way.

For the most part, the Internet and easy search changed all that. Want the best prices? Search online! Want to see a sample? The best promotional pen suppliers will be happy to send samples. Want promotional pens London – Look up North.

So what happens when you search for promotional pens London?

Local search is great for many business types but when it comes to promotional pens, your paying for the service. Promotional Parker Pens are Promotional Parker Pens regardless of who you purchase them from.

Online promotional pen suppliers like promotionalpens.co.uk. however can offer you these and other printed pens faster and for a lot less. We may be in Yorkshire but we specialise in the online supply of promotional pens worldwide.

Looking for the best deals on promotional pens London? You’ll find them up North!

Whether you are searching for promotional pens London, promotional pens Birmingham or promotional pens (Your city here) – you will always find the best deals and service from online promotional pen specialists like promotionalpens.co.uk!

Promotional Pens Leeds- Does Location Really Matter?

Looking for promotional pens Leeds?

I received an enquiry the other day from a marketing manager who typed ‘Promotional Pens Leeds‘ into Google. I am happy to say he found promotionalpens.co.uk and we were able to supply him with promotional pens and other business gifts he required. But how easily could he have missed us and gone elsewhere? I mean – promotional pens leeds? We’re about 30 miles from Leeds!

This got me to thinking about all the different businesses we supply around the UK and the current trend toward local search. Luckily, my customer found us because a Leeds based customer had written a glowing review about our products and service but not everyone writes reviews when they’re happy!

There are only about ten importers of promotional pens in the UK and we happen to be one of them. Anyone who deals with us will know that we have our main offices in North East England but our promotional pens are stored in London and Birmingham and those pens are often printed in other cities depending on the lead-time required.

What others could find if they search for promotional pens Leeds

The promotional pens industry is not like other – more localised – industries. We may have offices in North East England but the majority of our customers stem from the larger cities all over the UK and Europe.

By typing ‘promotional pens Leeds‘ into your search engine of choice, you are much more likely to find a company in your area that sells promotional pens – though knowing the business as I do, they probably won’t specialise in them.

If you want the lowest prices and best service, you need to search online for suppliers who supply promotional pens day in and day out!

How do you know where to shop online?

I’m not emplying that promotionalpens.co.uk is the only good supplier of promotional pens in the UK. But when you are looking for online suppliers of promotional merchandise such as promotional pens and promotional notebooks, it is a good idea to look for those who have the products you are looking for in their website domain name!

These are the companies who were in the position to enter the online promotional gifts market early and they are also most likely the biggest suppliers online.

Gone are the days when big was good! These days you will always find the best deals and service from the promotional pens suppliers who are less top-heavy and know how and what to sell online.

Of course, nothing beats actually speaking to the supplier. We like to think that it is our service – backed by our name – promotionalpens.co.uk that has helped us to become the UK’s leading printed pen suppliers.

At the end of the day, you can always search locally too. If in Leeds, try typing ‘promotional pens Leeds‘ and see what comes up. But be sure to stop back here and compare prices and service.

When searching for promotional pens Leeds, you will most likely find the promotional pens Middlesbrough will get you what you are looking for fast and for a lot less!

In fact, we will beat the price of any Leeds based promotional pens supplier by 10% – GUARANTEED!

So for promotional pens Leeds, please contact us today.

Promotional Pens by Prodir

Can you see how nicely personalised promotional pens can help build your brand?

Promotional pens and the Internet

The way we shop and for that matter socialise has changed greatly in the past few years.

The internet has progressed and taken most of us with it.  Increasing numbers of us shop online, socialise online and find the information we require online.

This has made using promotional pens and other desktop promotional gifts a very good and cost effective means of promoting your business.

Ten years ago we got most of our information through the television. Nowadays, most of us spend just as much, if not more  time on sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google.  This trend is bound to grow as the Internet becomes more interesting and mobile Internet becomes more popular.

Giving your customers promotional pens that they can use when they are jotting down information they find on Google or making a note to themselves to meet up with Facebook friends will help build your brand in a very positive way.

As increasing numbers of us turn to our desktops and away from our televisions, products such as printed promotional pens will be seen much more often.

Try to get a few promotional pens and other business gifts on your customers’ desktops. These products will work as silent salemen for you each time your target customers find themselves in front of their computers!

When choosing promotional pens, you want to look for those that will represent your company in a positive way.  Look for good quality pens that write smoothly and last a long time. I highly recommend the promotional pens by Senator Pens and Prodir Pen which I use in my own marketing.

There is a good reason why logo printed pens are the hottest promotional gifts on the market.  People need to use them daily both at home and work. We also need them when we travel and that will never change even in our computer driven world.

Why not start your next marketing campaign off in a good way by ensuring your customers have a selection of good quality writing instruments with your logo branded all over them.

For more information about how promotional pens can help grow your business, please contact me on 01642 782455 or simply subscribe to the RSS feed of this blog.

We would be happy to supply you with samples and ideas!

Promotional Pens promote like few business gifts can!

The Promotional Pen- Why This Promotional Product Should Be The First On Your List As A Promotional Gift

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

As a promotional product, the standard pen has always been a solid performer. The combination of its affordability and usefulness has made the promotional pen a staple in promotional gifts. Handing out a promotional pen with your company information printed on it can expose your brand to not just one set of eyes but to many- a pen has been shown to change hands up to nine times in it’s lifespan, meaning your promotional pen may work 9 times harder than other promotional gifts.

Starting at a cost of just around ten pence each, it is no accident that the promotional pen has been the most popular promotional item for decades.

Promotional pens have come a very long way in recent years. No longer just a boring cap-top or simple click type, there are thousands of makes and styles, colours and materials available to make your promotional pen a truly personal promotional gift.

The click pen has progressed greatly in design and utility as of late- your promotional pen can stand out among the other pens that are handed out by doubling as highlighters, LED lights and even laser pointers.

There are many colours  to choose from, from rich candied colours to stylish metallic finishes. For affordability and general gifting there are many plastic pens that will do a fantastic job of helping your brand…

BUT

Know your audience. A plastic pen will be of little interest to a six-figure executive. If you mainly deal with high-priced accounts an executive promotional pen is a much better choice.

The executive promotional pens will cost significantly more than their plastic counterparts, but the extra money is well spent if your promotional pen can keep the attention of your more desireable clientele. Your promotional gift supplier will be able to help you select the right promotional pen for your target market, as well as offer help pertaining to the design.

One more thing to pay attention to when ordering promotional pens- quality. A promotional pen doesn’t promote anything when it’s sitting at the bottom of a rubbish bin. A pen that is difficult to write with, leaves spots and blotches wherever it writes or just does not work will actually have the opposite effect of what it is intended for. Hand out a poor quality pen and your organisation will not appear professional or dedicated to quality, no matter how attractive the promotional pen is.

When ordering your promotional pens, insist on samples so that you can choose the best performing and most comfortable pen for representing your brand.

Promotional Pens- A First-Hand Experience From A Designated Recipient

Promotional Pens can promote you business for years!

As a business owner and consumer, I have been handed hundreds of promotional pens. Some of them I used quite often, many of them were tossed aside and forgotten about. In this article you will hear the hard truth about what happens to your promotional pens.

In most industries the pen is still the main instrument used to record thought and information. I use a pen several times throughout the day for writing up orders, take notes and record daily logs.

Do you?

When one relies on a pen as much as we do in our society, certain types of pens become more sought out than others. It really doesn’t matter whose name is on it.

Most people use pens that meet their requirements- easy to hold, writes smoothly and only releases ink when it’s supposed to. Last, but not to be overlooked, is how it looks.

I once worked for a company that ordered 1,000 promotional pens for use by employees and as promotional giveaways. I wasn’t impressed with the cap top style, as I tend to lose the caps.

The outside was pleasing enough, with the company logo prominently displayed with only a toll-free number as the contact information. Nice and simple.

But when I went to use this pen, it just didn’t write well- at first no ink came out at all. After a few minutes of shaking it the ink did start to flow, sparingly. After completing my second invoice with this pen, I accepted that it was a piece of garbage and put it aside.

I then reached for my pen of choice, a promotional pen that was decorated with the name of a business that I knew nothing about and as far as I knew, had nothing to do with anything that I would ever be interested in.

But guess what? I remembered the name on that pen – College Book – when I changed jobs and they became a supplier.

This pen had it all- retractable, rubber grip, perfect dispersion of ink, an eye-pleasing colour scheme and when I wrote with it, there was a feeling that I was writing on a cloud. The pen took virtually no effort to write with, something that is important to a person that uses a pen all day long.

The moral to this story? Even the most meticulous of business owners will order their promotional pens without trying them out first, thinking “a pen is just a pen.

If I can save a few pence per item it won’t really matter. A pen is just a pen”. Famous last words before purchasing 1,000 sticks of rubbish bin fodder.

If you really want your promotional pen to do what you bought it for (promote), then do your research and make sure the promotional pens you purchase are the go-to pens, not expensive drawer dwellers.

At Promotionalpens.co.uk, we would be happy to arrange for you to see samples of our pens. We can also suggest great quality pens that are within your budget and help with any artwork issued.

You can email us at sales@compugift.co.uk or give us a call on 01642 782455!

We look forward to hearing from you.

How Ted Made His Small Business Big with the Help of Promotional Pens

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

I first met Ted about ten years ago when he enquired about promotional merchandise for his new start-up business.

He didn’t have a large budget. In fact, as he put it – he didn’t have any budget. Still he understood the importance of marketing and felt promotional gifts were a good way to get his business name and logo around town.

He got that right. If you compare the cost of promoting your business with promotional merchandise to other forms of advertising, promotional merchandise is usually quite a lot less expensive and better value for money.

This is especially so when you promote your business with useful products your customers will find of value – products they will want to use and own.

So it was, we decided to promote Ted’s new business with promotional pens. Not just any promotional pens – Prodir Pens. There are a lot of excellent quality plastic pens on the market. Choosing the best you can afford will bring you far better returns.

Prodir pens are more expensive than most promotional pens but they are guaranteed to write up to 5000 meters! That is just over three miles of writing life. Sometime if may seem wise to purchase large quantities of very cheap pens, but these pens usually stop writing quite quickly and could do your brand more harm than good.

Ted chose to purchase a smaller quantity of high quality Prodir Pens and has reordered many times as his company grew.

Here are some interesting facts about pens you might like to know;

1.) Plastic pens change owners on average 5 times during their writing life. Purchase 1000 and you are going to be promoting your business to up to 5000 people. Not only that, each of those people will see and recognise your logo many times if the pens write well.

2.) Promotional Plastic pens can be made to order. Ted’s company colours are navy and yellow so we had Prodir manufacture navy barrelled pens with yellow clips and nose cones. The clips we printed with his logo in navy and then we printed his contact details in yellow on the blue barrels. The results looked fantastic.

3.) If you decide to order generic pens – of which there are many excellent quality options, be sure to ask for samples. One pen could look identical to another in a different catalogue but pictures can and do lie regardless of what you may have been told.

Ted has now been ordering the same promotional Prodir pens for ten years along with many other matching products such as mugs, mouse mats and desk jotters.

I have watched his company grow from a small office employing three to ten offices employing 90.

Of course this is not all down to promotional gifts but I like to think I played a small part.

What promotional products have you used to promote your business? Have you used any one product that worked better than others? Do you care to share?

What Was the First Promotional Gift You Ever Received?

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Promotional gifts are great! Promotional gifts are great because they are free and they make us smile. Do you remember the first bit of SWAG (stuff we all get) you ever received?

Mine was when I was at university. Actually that is probably not so – it is just the first time I remember receiving a promotional item. It was a heavy brass bottle opener that I got when I purchased a case of Warsteiner beer for a party I was going to.

I still have it today and would be quite upset if it ever got lost. That low cost bottle opener, emblazoned with the Warsteinger logo has been with me to many parties, camping trips and other events for over 25 years!

Promotional products are everywhere and I am sure I received quite a few before that day in the liquor shop but that bottle opener was the first memorable product I received. It was very well targeted. Warsteiner obviously new that anyone purchasing their bottles of beer might also like a way of opening them.

You would have to be very lucky to give away a promotional product that stayed with your customer for 25 years reminding them about you each time they see it. But a few months or years is not bad either.

Look for promotional merchandise that is carefully targeted toward your customer’s needs.

This is not always easy if you do not know your target audience well, but you are safe offering products we all use and require regularly.

Promotional pens, mouse mats, coffee mugs and desk tidies are all great ideas for office bound customers.

Clothing like t-shirts, umbrellas and sports bottles may be better for people who are outdoors a lot.

If you know your customer likes and interests very well, you are in an even better position. I like to write and recently received a mug, mouse mat, pen and conference folder with a paper pad from a supplier. These are all gifts I use daily and I see their logo daily.

Keep this in mind when searching for promotional merchandise. Gadgety gifts are fun to give away but not aways the best choice.

I can’t remember who gave me that Rubik’s Cube that I passed on to my son – who later lost it. I didn’t like the things in the 70s and I don’t like them now.

The better you can target your customers the better your gifts will be received.

So what was your first – or favourite promotional gift? Do you care to share? Why not give that company that gave it to you a little free publicity?

Trade Show Facts – Cheap Promotional Pens Could Do You More Harm Than Good

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Promotional pens continue to be one of the most popular trade show giveaways. Customers always need pens and are happy to take them, which generates a great deal of publicity for you. They are low-cost promotional gifts that have the potential to advertise your business for years.

This means your competition is also handing out lots of pens.

The variety of styles and features mean that recipients can pick and choose to find their favourites. They come home with a bagful, and their favourite pens end up on their desks at work. If it’s your pen, people will look at your logo every day. Give away the wrong pen and those customers will be looking at your competition’s.

Cheap promotional pens can get your name into customers’ hands. But if a pen is hard to write with, it may get tossed before the customer even makes it back to the office. In fact, odds are that a pen will be used right away at a trade show. People network, swap information, jot down phone numbers and websites, and fill out countless customer cards and surveys.

At just a few pence each, cheap pens might seem like the ideal way to reach thousands of customers. Unfortunately, quality can vary widely, even among the low-cost pens. Don’t assume that pens are pens and people won’t notice the difference. This is especially true at a trade show, where people can simply go to the next stand and get another one.

There is no scarcity of promotional pens, especially at trade shows. People see stick style pens as low value items and won’t feel bad about disposing of them. They won’t hesitate to throw away a pen they don’t like, but they will probably wonder why you would choose a low-quality pen to represent your business.

The point is that lousy pens can hurt your business, regardless of what they cost.

This does not mean you need to order pens with all the bells and whistles. However, you really should make sure they write well and feel comfortable. No one wants a pen that leaves inkblots on the page or worse, doesn’t write at all.

Unfortunately there are too many cheap pens around that do just that. Cheap promotional pens that seem like a bargain actually hamper your marketing efforts if customers are throwing them away. Get some samples and try the pens first. Make sure they are something you would enjoy using before handing them out. Otherwise they could end up doing your business more harm than good.

7 Things To Remember When Preparing For A Trade Show

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

A successful trade show experience takes planning and proper execution. But even with a solid plan, people sometimes get caught up in the details and forget the major factors that are important to trade show success. Keep this basic outline in mind when preparing for your next trade show to maximize your results.

1. Start planning early. Printing brochures and customized products can take time, especially if there is a delay or a problem with your order. Custom graphics and displays also take time to create, and you don’t want the results to look rushed.

2. Decide on an objective. What do you hope to accomplish through your exhibit? Establish how many leads you would like to generate or how many customer contacts you would like to make. Determining this goal in advance keeps your staff focused. It also helps you plan how many supplies to order and how you will handle follow-up tasks.

3. Choose your location carefully. Be sure to reserve a booth in location that serves your needs best. If you want to capture the most walk-through traffic, you don’t want a spot that is away from the beaten path – you want the prime real estate in the center. If your business lends itself to longer, one-on-one conversations or demonstrations, you may want a spot in a quieter corner where your customers are not bothered by an endless stream of traffic.

4. Appearance counts – in more ways than one. Exhibits should be eye-catching and appealing. They also need to incorporate high-visibility elements so that visitors can easily find your booth. You don’t need to blow your advertising budget, but banners, graphics and racks should all look professional. You also need to set yourself apart from hundreds or thousands of other exhibits. Lay your items out in unique and innovative ways that don’t look cheap or gimmicky.

5. Dress appropriately. Decide what your staff should wear to best represent your company. You might prefer the formality of suits or the more relaxed look of logo-printed polo shirts. Customers may dress casually at trade shows, but they expect exhibitors to look polished and businesslike.

6. People expect takeaways and promotional items. Make sure yours are good quality so that they last and work well. To increase interest in your stand, provide quality items that serve a purpose or solve a problem. Not only will people be happy to take them home, they will be sure to use them for months or years.

7. Not every prospect will become a customer right away. You can set aside premium products for those who make a purchase at the show, but all visitors should be treated as though their time is important. Courtesy and a low-cost promotional item can go a long way to generate a relationship with a prospect.

They might not be qualified at the moment, but you don’t know what their situation will be by next year’s show. Make sure they have a positive experience with you. If your item is memorable, for instance, an extremely comfortable pen, they will be sure to remember where they got it.
